The excimer laser is a reasonably effective modality for treating vitiligo. Other disorders of hypopigmentation, such as a nevus depigmentosus (ND), or post-inflammatory hypopigmentation (PIH) secondary to lichen striatus (LS) may be distressing to patients (or their parents). Due to AADA’s advocacy, Cigna fixed its prior authorization process for excimer lasers. Cigna updated its process for how excimer laser prior authorization approvals are entered into their system, which will eliminate inappropriate claim denials for the laser excimer CPT codes (96920, 92921, 96922) and alleviate burdens on dermatology practices.
