The Academy opposes step therapy and “fail first” strategies because they impede treatment and have been shown to have a negative impact on patients. Step therapy blocks patient access to medications, interferes with the physician’s decision-making, and undermines the doctor-patient relationship.

Retinoids are standard therapy for patients with severe ichthyoses and disorders of keratinization. Dermatologists are familiar with the mucocutaneous and systemic adverse effects of oral isotretinoin. The promise of a safe and effective topical isotretinoin would be a welcome therapeutic advance.
An acne vaccine to make patients happy CAMPers?
When walking back to my office after receiving my flu shot, I thought about how wonderful it be to have a preventive therapy for common dermatologic disorders such as acne. That may not be so far-fetched.
